Day 1 - HOME/GUANGZHOU

This evening, we board our China Southern Airlines flight bound for Xian, China with a stopover in Guangzhou along the way.

Day 2 - GUANGZHOU/XIAN

After a few hours transit in Guangzhou airport, our connecting flight will take us to Xian - the eastern terminus and starting point of the ancient Silk Road. Explore the incredible Wild Goose Pagoda, a five-story Buddhist pagoda built during the Tang Dynasty, before visiting the remarkable Great Tang Everbright City Pedestrian Street. Then have early check in at hotel for a few hours rest and settle into hotel. Afterwards, head to the famous Moslem Street, Bell and Drum Tower Square area for dinner and some free time to sample local cuisine and shop for souvenirs and then back home.

Day 3 - XIAN

After such much needed rest and breakfast, we start our morning with a day tour to the site of the famed Terracotta Army – a massive collection of sculptures depicting the armies of the of the first emperor of China and dating back to the third century BC. Then we tour the Ancient City Wall, one of the oldest and best-preserved city walls in China.

* Today you will arrange for your large suitcase to be transported to the next hotel, please have an overnight bag ready.

Day 4 - XIAN/LANZHOU

Early this morning we take a high speed train to Lanzhou which will take approximately 3.5 hours. Upon arrival, visit the iconic Yellow River Mother Sculpture, a powerful monument honoring the life-giving river. Next, explore the serene Lanzhou Waterwheel Park, where traditional water wheels dot the riverbanks, offering a glimpse into the region's history. Cross the striking Yellow River Iron Bridge, an engineering marvel that connects the two sides of the city. As the day winds down, we check into our hotel for much needed rest.

Day 5 - LANZHOU/WUWEI

After some much needed rest, today we visit the revered Temple of Confucius, a serene sanctuary that honors the influential philosopher and his teachings. Next, explore the Leitai Han Tomb, an ancient burial site that offers a window into the region's rich past. Wander through the lively South City Gate Square, where bustling markets and local life converge. As the sun sets, immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the Ming and Qing Street Night Market in Wuwei, where you can sample delectable street food, browse local handicrafts, and soak in the lively energy of the community.

Day 6 - WUWEI/ZHANGYE

After breakfast, we depart Wuwei and head east to the captivating Zhangye region. Your first stop is the breathtaking Danxia Geopark, where you'll explore the otherworldly landscapes aboard an eco-friendly electromobile. Marvel at the vibrant, undulating rock formations in shades of red, orange, and yellow - a true natural wonder. After taking in the stunning vistas, make your way to the Dafo Temple, a serene Buddhist sanctuary that offers a peaceful respite. Wander the temple grounds, admiring the intricate architecture and statues, and soak in the tranquil atmosphere before continuing to your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 7 - ZHANGYE/JIAYUGUAN

After breakfast, we continue westward to the historic city of Jiayuguan. Begin your exploration of this important region at the Jiayuguan City, where you can stroll through the bustling streets and admire the well-preserved architecture. No visit to Jiayuguan would be complete without a stop at the iconic First Pier of the Great Wall. Stand in awe as you gaze upon this remarkable feat of ancient engineering, the western starting point of the iconic structure that has guarded China's borders for centuries. Imagine the countless travelers and soldiers who have passed through this gateway over the millennia. Overnight in Jiayuguan.

Day 8 - JIAYUGUAN/DUNHUANG

This morning, your journey continues as you depart for the enchanting city of Dunhuang. Your first stop is the captivating Mingsha Mountain, where towering sand dunes glisten in the sunlight and here we will give you an opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the desert landscape. Next, visit the serene Crescent Moon Spring, a natural oasis nestled amidst the dunes. Marvel at the crystal-clear waters and the stunning contrast between the lush greenery and the surrounding sand. During your visit, we will include a camel ride, allowing you to experience the traditional mode of transportation that has traversed these lands for centuries. As the sun sets, head to the vibrant Shazhou Night Market, where you can indulge in local delicacies, browse artisanal crafts, and soak in the lively atmosphere. Before retiring for the day, make a final stop at the awe-inspiring Son of Earth sculpture, a towering tribute to the region's rich cultural heritage.

Day 9 - DUNHUANG

Today is a full day to enjoy Dunhuang! The first stop is the renowned Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site that houses one of the finest collections of Buddhist art and architecture in the world. Conveniently, a shuttle bus service transports visitors to the caves, allowing for a seamless and efficient visit. Upon arrival, you'll have the opportunity to marvel at the intricate murals and statues that adorn the cave interiors, as well as learn about the rich history and significance of this remarkable site through a captivating 3D movie presentation. Continuing the historical exploration, the next destination is the Yang Pass, a strategic military stronghold that guarded the Silk Road for centuries. Wander the ancient fortifications and imagine the countless caravans and soldiers that have passed through this important gateway over the ages. The Yang Pass offers a tangible connection to Dunhuang's role as a vital hub along the legendary Silk Road trade route.

Day 10 - DUNHUANG/SHANSAN

Your day begins with a visit to the Imitation Song Dynasty Ancient City, a meticulously recreated historical site that transports you back in time to the architectural splendor of the Song Dynasty era. Wander through the intricate network of streets, admiring the traditional buildings, pagodas, and bridges that have been painstakingly reconstructed to capture the essence of this important period in Chinese history. This captivating experience allows you to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of the region. After your morning exploration, you'll board a train for a few hours towards the town of Shanshan, where you'll continue your adventure along the historic Silk Road. Overnight in Shanshan.

Notes on train - We will drive from Dunhuang to Liuyuan station and then take the Harmony high speed train to Shanshan (second class ticket) - Approximately 3 hours - with regards to luggage, we will transfer separately to ensure comfort and ease of travel

Day 11 - SHANSHAN/TURPAN

This morning, you depart for the city of Turpan, but along the way, you'll make several fascinating stops. First, you'll visit the Kumtag Desert Park, a vast expanse of stunning desert landscapes where you can explore the towering sand dunes and unique geological formations. Next, you'll journey to Huoyan Mountain, also known as the "Flaming Mountains," a dramatic range of red sandstone peaks that have been sculpted by the elements over time. After taking in the breathtaking vistas, you'll continue on to the Tuyugou Uyghur Ancient Village, a well-preserved traditional settlement that offers a glimpse into the cultural heritage of the Uyghur people. Here, you can wander the narrow streets, visit local artisans, and immerse yourself in the timeless way of life that has endured for generations. Overnight in Turpan.

Day 12 - TURPAN/URUMQI

Your day in Turpan begins with a visit to the ancient city of Jiaohe, a remarkably well-preserved archaeological site that was once a thriving hub along the Silk Road. Wander through the ruins, marveling at the intricate architecture and gaining insights into the daily life of the city's former inhabitants. After exploring Jiaohe, you'll head to the Qanat, an ingenious underground irrigation system that has sustained the region for centuries. Learn about the engineering feat behind this network of tunnels and canals as you gain a deeper appreciation for the resourcefulness of the local people. Your final stop in Turpan will be a visit to a local vineyard, where you can sample the region's renowned grapes and wines, and perhaps even witness the traditional grape-drying process. As the day draws to a close, you'll make the journey to the city of Urumqi, where you'll settle in for the night.

Day 13 - URUMQI

Today, your exploration of Urumqi begins with a trip to the stunning Heaven Lake, located in the Tianshan Mountains. This alpine lake, nestled amidst towering peaks, is a breathtaking natural wonder, and you'll have the opportunity to take a cable car ride up (Subject to pending weather conditions), taking in the majestic scenery all around you. After your time at Heaven Lake, you'll head to the Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar, a vibrant and bustling marketplace that offers a glimpse into the rich cultural diversity of the region. Wander through the stalls, browsing the array of handicrafts, textiles, spices, and local delicacies on offer, and immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of this iconic Uyghur-influenced marketplace. As you soak in the sights, sounds, and aromas of the bazaar, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the unique character of Urumqi and the Xinjiang Autonomous Region.

Day 14 - URUMQI/GUANGZHOU

This morning after breakfast, we will take a flight to Guangzhou. Upon arrival your trusty local guide will be ready to show us around! This afternoon, we will visit Dafo Temple and spend some time on Beijing road with dinner before heading back to hotel for rest.

Day 15 - GUANGZHOU

A full day of Guangzhou awaits! Today, we explore the vibrant attractions of Guangzhou, starting with the scenic Yuexiu Park and the iconic Five Rams Statue, followed by a visit to Yongqing Fang and the Cantonese Opera Museum. Delve into the life of the legendary Bruce Lee at his former residence before enjoying some shopping at Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street. Conclude your day with a serene evening cruise along the Pearl River, taking in the city's stunning skyline.

Day 16 - GUANGZHOU/HOME

Before we fly home this evening, we visit Huacheng Square to enjoy its impressive surroundings, including a stunning view of the Canton Tower. Then, immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage at the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, where you can admire exquisite traditional architecture and intricate carvings. We will arrive to Guangzhou airport around 6pm tonight to check in for our evening overnight flight home.
